Important note regarding your cat and essential oils: Essential oils can be purchased in many stores and even internationally. Most oils are aromatherapy grade (not therapeutic grade). Please be aware, no matter what brand or grade, if the oil contains benzyl alcohols or phenols, these constituents are quickly absorbed into a cat’s body which can cause liver damage. Due to the lack of an enzyme in cats to metabolize benzyl alcohols and phenols, these constituents can cause high amounts of toxicity in their bodies creating serious illness and even death. It is imperative that the chemical compound of the oil is known prior to administering. (Also, do not use with a diffuser.)
Essential oils with hydrosols are fine to use with cats because they are processed through the liver without problems. At EnergyPet, we always use a carrier oil as well when applying essential oils to cats, to dilute the strength.
